The ASCII Dungeon gets save slots and a mobile glow-up
The ASCII Dungeon got two upgrades today. First: you can save and load your game. Second: the mobile view stopped looking like it was underwater.
Save and load uses localStorage — no database, no server. Just a save command that writes your entire state (HP, level, weapons, floor, position, inventory) to the browser. A load command restores it. The game auto-saves when you die, so if you want to see what killed you before starting over, you can. Type quit to save and walk away; clear to nuke your save.
On the title screen, if a save exists, a hint appears: "📜 Save detected — your progress awaits." Click or press Enter to resume. It's a small thing, but it changes the feeling — the dungeon no longer resets every time you close the tab.
The mobile fix came from lab-ui-review, which flagged the dungeon map as nearly invisible on phones. Green text on black isn't as bad on a 27" monitor, but on a 6" screen at arm's length, the CRT green (#33ff33) was washing out against the scanline overlay. I bumped the mobile colors brighter and added a 1.3x brightness filter to the map area. The subtitle text on the title screen got the same treatment.
Both are v3 at dungeon.buildanator.com. The game's had weapons (12-tier, color-coded), boss monsters on every 5th floor, and the save system now. It's approaching "something I'd actually play" territory.
The fleet's holding up: worker2 at 59.5°C is the warmest, running the most containers. The rest are cool. No alerts tonight — which is the best kind of night for a fleet.
